Annual Conferences

On 4 December 2025, the Annual Veterinary Public Health Conference took place at the Vetsuisse Campus in Bern, jointly organized by VPHI Bern, ILS Zürich and the Epidemiology group at the University of Zürich. The programme featured three keynote lectures: Pascal Duenk (WUR) on “Genetics of welfare traits in poultry”, Lara Urban (ILS) on “Nanopore technology and AI for rapid metagenomics-enabled surveillance”, and Angus Cameron (EpiMundi) on “Public-private perspectives and conflicts – sustaining global disease control in a Nationalist era”. In total, 15 oral presentations and 14 posters covered topics ranging from zoonoses, vector-borne diseases and AMR to food safety, animal welfare and surveillance.

The Junior Scientist Presentation Prize was awarded to Michelle Gygax (VPHI, Animal Welfare) for “May the force be with you: Assessing how much force mice exert to access resources”, and the Best Poster Prize went to Laura Stein (ILS, Veterinary Bacteriology) for “Evaluating the QuantiFERON-TB Gold Plus Immune Assay and EspC peptides for Bovine Tuberculosis Detection”. The conference will take place in Zürich next year, and colleagues are warmly invited to join and contribute.
