SAPHIR – Economic evaluation of new PRRS vaccine technologies

Contact Person: Beat Thomann

Duration: 2018 - 2019

The Strengthening Animal Health through the Immune Response project – SAPHIR – aims to develop vaccines for endemic diseases in pigs, poultry and cattle. It is an interdisciplinary research project that involves biological scientists, epidemiologists, regulatory experts, economists and social scientists. A major component of the project is to look at the economic impact of diseases and then examine the economic profitability of the new vaccine technologies developed.

The VPHI and the Swine Clinic of the University of Bern (Heiko Nathues) are predominantly involved in WP15 (WP leader: Jonathan Rushton, University of Liverpool). The aim of the collaboration is to develop decision support tools in order to assess the usefulness of the SAPHIR vaccine strategies, specifically to assess the economic profitability of the PRRS vaccination at farm level.

SAPHIR is a Horizon 2020 project running from 2015 to 2019 (https://www.h2020-saphir.eu). This research received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation program.
