Epidemiologic investigation of an outbreak of progressive atrophic rhinitis

The investigation included the examination of the index herd and all breeding herds that had purchased gilts during the probable time period of latent infection. A tracing back was conducted to detect the possible source of infection in the index herd; a tracing forward then was done to assess the degree of spread to contact herds.
