Fabienne Thomas is a policy adviser with extensive experience at the intersection of energy, agriculture, and sustainable development. As Head of Policy at aeesuisse, the Swiss umbrella association for renewable energy and energy efficiency, she shapes and implements policies that promote Switzerland’s energy transition and foster a more sustainable economy. Before joining aeesuisse in 2021, she held key positions at the Swiss Farmers’ Union, where she worked on agricultural and climate policy, and at the Volkart Foundation, where she managed projects in international development cooperation. She now contributes her expertise as well to the Council for Spatial Planning, an advisory body to the Federal Council that provides interdisciplinary expertise on spatial sustainability issues.
Fabienne holds a degree in International Agricultural Engineering from the Bern University of Applied Sciences, a Master in Geography and Journalism from the University of Fribourg, and a Certificate of Advanced Studies in Renewable Energy Management from the University of St. Gallen. Her professional and personal worlds are closely intertwined: as a passionate sheep herder, she experiences first-hand the interdependence of human, animal, and environmental health. This connection to nature deeply shapes her view of sustainable policy-making, as can be seen in this SRF report about her (in Swiss German).
